SIMPLIFIED – Survival Improvement with Cholecalciferol in Patients on Dialysis

SIMPLIFIED – Survival Improvement with Cholecalciferol in Patients on Dialysis

The research

Low levels of vitamin D are associated with cardiovascular disease, infection and malignancy, and current evidence supports the notion that supplementation with native vitamin D (colecalciferol) reduces mortality in the general population.

The challenge

SIMPLIFIED is a phase IV, open label, randomised controlled trial to assess the impact of colecalciferol supplementation on outcomes in patients with kidney failure receiving dialysis (https://simplified.medschl.cam.ac.uk/).

The results

The study will follow a total of 4,200 participants across the UK, and recruitment is well underway in Wales. The study is currently open and recruiting.

The impact

Learning could improve patients overall health and delivery of treatment options.
